Start small

Small, funny, and still worth doing.

Not every action has to be complicated. These take a few minutes, make people smile and are built to be shared. Each one ends with a next step, so a small start can lead somewhere bigger.

Send your MP a toy protest

What to do

Line up toys holding tiny signs about an issue you care about and take a photo. Print it as a postcard, write a one-line ask on the back, and mail it to [Your MP's name], House of Commons, Ottawa ON K1A 0A6. No stamp needed.

Why it works

A real piece of mail lands on your MP's desk, and the photo is made for sharing. It's hard to argue with a teddy bear.

Where it comes from

In 2012 in Barnaul, Russia, residents were denied a protest permit, so they staged one with Lego figures and stuffed animals. Officials then had to decide whether toys could protest.

Make Ms. Rachel's first album a hit

What to do

Buy or stream I'm So Happy, Ms. Rachel and Mr. Aron's debut album, out September 25, 2026. Then share it.

Why it works

Ms. Rachel spoke up for children in Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan and took serious heat for it. Accusations against her were later reported as baseless. People with a platform watch what happens to those who speak up. When someone stands up for kids and still thrives, the next person finds it easier to speak up.

Hold a pun bake sale

What to do

Give every item an issue pun, like Safe Third Country Squares, Lawful Access Loaf or Bill C-22 Cookies, and donate the proceeds. Hold it at home, at work or at school, or ask a local business, faith group or community centre if you can set up there.

Why it works

The menu does the explaining, and the money goes somewhere real.

Hand out a satirical award

What to do

Make a mock certificate for an institution, using something on the public record: the Golden Shovel for Most Delayed Delivery, or Most Creative Non-Answer for a ministry's reply. Post it.

Why it works

A good joke about a real, documented failure gets shared further than a complaint, and it points people to the record.

Where it comes from

Satire groups like Billionaires for Bush, plus the long tradition of mock awards.

Rules

Label it as satire, aim at institutions rather than people, and never pose as the real organization.

Write a protest song

What to do

Write new lyrics about an issue to a public-domain tune, like Row, Row, Row Your Boat or Twinkle, Twinkle, and post a 30-second video. Stay away from pop songs because of copyright. If you'd like company, check the Raging Grannies Find a Gaggle map for a group near you.

Why it works

A catchy tune carries a message further than a statistic, and it gets people singing together.

Where it comes from

The Raging Grannies, founded in Victoria in 1987, who've been rewriting old tunes as protest songs ever since.

Rename your Wi-Fi

What to do

Change your network name to a question or fact, like AskMeAboutPetitionE7146 or DoesMyBankFundICE. Then screenshot the network list and post it.

Why it works

It's the cheapest billboard you own. Every neighbour who looks for Wi-Fi reads it.

Share it

โ€œUpdated the Wi-Fi. The neighbours have questions. ๐Ÿ“ถโ€

Our rules for humour: we aim at institutions, never at people. Satire is always labelled. And every easy win links to a real action.
